One of my favourite things about Antigua, Guatemala is the restaurant scene – you can pretty much find every type of cuisine you can imagine, for any budget!
Not only is the food delicious, but there are countless restaurants in Antigua with unique ambiance, from cool buildings with modern decor, to cozy rooftop patios with remarkable views of the surrounding volcanoes.
For first timers in Antigua it can be overwhelming to decide where to eat, especially if you only have a few days in the city. During my three weeks in Antigua I tried out a ton of different restaurants in the city, based on online reviews and recommendations from locals.
Whether you are looking for quality food or cheap eats, a bar with a social atmosphere and great views or an upscale restaurant in a beautiful historic building, I have the perfect recommendations for you!
In this guide, you’ll find 11 amazing restaurants and bars in Antigua for every budget.
Luna De Miel
Luna de Miel is one of the most popular restaurants in Antigua, and for good reason.
It is most famous for its mouth-watering crepes, offering a large variety of sweet and savoury options. They also have smoothies, coffees, cocktails, desserts, and more. The portions are huge, so don’t expect it to be a light meal.
Luna de Miel has some indoor seating as well as a great rooftop patio.
Since it is such a popular spot, it is wise to make a reservation if you plan to be there around dinner. I went during a weekday morning and had no problems getting a table, but I often saw a long lineup outside the door in the evenings.

Caoba Farms
Caoba farms has an organic farm-to-table restaurant on a beautiful property located on the outskirts of Antigua.
The restaurant is in a gorgeous little garden and they have live music on the weekends. I had a delicious smoothie and they have a variety of meals to choose from.
It is a little more pricey than you would pay at other restaurants, but the food is organic and fresh (grown right on their property!) and the setting is so unique, it’s worth paying a bit extra.
It’s a bit of a walk from central Antigua (around 25-30 minutes) so you may want to consider getting a taxi or tuk-tuk.
If you have a few hours to explore the farm, there is lots to see. You can wander around the farm on your own or take a tour with the owner. The property also has a playground, an acro yoga studio, a small store, and a weekend market with local vendors.

Ta’Cool
Ta’Cool is a small chain serving delicious Mexican food and cocktails in a modern restaurant.
It’s not too pricey and they have every type of Mexican food you can imagine. The staff at Ta’Cool were so friendly and gave me great recommendations on what to order.
There are actually two Ta’Cool’s in Antigua, but only one of them is on Google Maps. Both are in fairly central locations, so you are bound to see one of them while you are exploring the city.
If you want a quick, fairly cheap, and delicious Mexican meal, then Ta’Cool is the place to go.

Casa Santo Domingo
Enjoying a meal at Casa Santo Domingo is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The property used to be a monastery that has now been converted into a high-end hotel, restaurant, and event space. It is a gorgeous property with rich history and it is definitely worth checking out, whether or not you choose to eat there.
While this isn’t a place I would typically choose to dine at (due to the price), the group I was with wanted to go, so I opted to join them. We went for the brunch buffet on Sunday and had soooo many options to choose from. There was a whole room dedicated to traditional Guatemalan foods and a yogurt bar, as well as a second room where you could get crepes, smoothies, and omelets made to order.
Although it was very expensive, the food was incredible and it was such a unique place to go. If you are willing to splurge on a meal, I would highly recommend the buffet brunch at Casa Santo Domingo!

Hector’s Bistro and Deli
Hector’s has been in Antigua for many years and it used to operate out of a tiny restaurant overlooking Parque La Merced.
During the pandemic, they expanded and took over an old private school just a few blocks away. They now have tons of seating in the old school courtyard, with modern fireplaces and lights surrounding the tables. It is a truly gorgeous atmosphere, especially at night, and some of the old classrooms have unique decor that is worth checking out.
Apart from the ambience, Hector’s has incredible food. I had one of the most delicious pasta dishes I’ve ever had in my life and the pizzas looked amazing too.
If you don’t have the time to enjoy a sit-down dinner here, you can also grab a gourmet sandwich or baked goods to-go at Hector’s Deli next door.

Rooftop Antigua
As a restaurant/bar with one of the best views of the volcanoes surrounding the city, Rooftop Antigua is the place to be at sunset.
I cannot explain how epic the views are from this rooftop and I wish I could have gone back every evening to see the sunset from there.
The food and drinks were nothing special, but it’s a nice budget option if you want a cheap meal out with unmatched views.

Donde El Gringo
Donde El Gringo is another great rooftop patio with cheap food and drinks.
While the view isn’t quite as jaw-dropping as Rooftop Antigua, it still has a beautiful view of the city and the volcanoes. This bar has more of a modern vibe with nice lounge seats and lights on the patio.
If you want a cheap evening out, this is a great place to go!

El Viejo Cafe
If you’ve read my blog post about Cafes to Visit in Antigua, you may recognize El Viejo from that list as one of my favourite spots in all of Antigua!
El Viejo is a restaurant as well as a cafe and bakery. They have a beautiful garden terrace and lots of great options on their menu for a meal or a light snack.
The service is great and the atmosphere is beautiful, so you really can’t go wrong with spending time here!

Los Tres Tiempos
Los Tres Tiempos is a modern restaurant with lots of nice indoor seating as well as a large patio and garden.
It’s right in the center of town near the Arch, and you will no doubt notice it when you walk by because it has such a cool vibe.
It’s not cheap, but I would say it’s a decent price for the quality and quantity of the meals they serve. Los Tres Tiempos might be home to the best tacos I’ve ever eaten 🙂

The Lounge – Selina Antigua
I might be a little biased because Selina Hostel is where I stayed for my three weeks in Antigua, but I loved The Lounge.
It has a large variety of food and drinks for reasonable prices. The vibe is great – a modern bar with comfy chairs, games, great music, and nightly social events, surrounded by a beautiful garden with large colonial buildings and lots of nice outdoor seating.
The staff are so friendly and it’s a very social hostel, so there are always people hanging around the bar.
If you are a solo traveler, this is a great place to meet others, whether you stay at the hostel or just visit for a meal or a drink.

Restaurante Fridas
A list of the best restaurants in Antigua would not be complete without a mention of Fridas. Restaurante Fridas in Antigua is widely known for having the best Mexican food in the city (and maybe even the country!).
The service is excellent and they have a large menu with high quality food, unique drinks, and cool ambiance honouring Frida Kahlo.
It is located right on Arch Street and is a very popular restaurant, so expect to have to wait for a table if you go in the evening.
If you are a fan of Mexican food, this should definitely be at the top of your list for places to try in Antigua!
